Description
A cent from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse belongs to the Lincoln Wheat Cents 1909-1958 series. The obverse features Abraham Lincoln facing right, the first real person depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays two wheat stalks framing ONE CENT, symbolizing American agriculture. First year of the Lincoln Cent. This particular strike type is the famous FS-1101 Doubled Die Obverse. The "VDB" initials on the reverse caused a public outcry, and cents without VDB quickly followed. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $50 to $1.2K depending on grade and condition.
