Description
The 1909 (D) Barber Quarter, struck at the Denver Mint, is part of the Barber Quarters 1892-1916 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 5.1 million examples, making this ranked 3rd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with 31% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. The 1909-O is the final New Orleans Mint quarter — the facility closed permanently after this year. Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $24 to $479 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
