Description
The 1908 (S) Philippine Peso is a peso coin minted at the San Francisco Mint, within the Philippines Peso 1903-1945 series. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil, holding a hammer and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. Coined at the San Francisco Mint, which transitioned from Gold Rush-era production to its modern role producing proof and collector issues. Auction record: $8,400 MS65 08-18-2024 Heritage Auctions. Struck in silver, weighing 20 grams, 38 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #90394.
