Description
The 1905 (S) Philippine Fifty Centavos was struck at the San Francisco Mint as a fifty centavos coin in the Philippines Fifty Centavos 1903-1945 series. Total mintage reached 852,000. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil, similar to but larger than the twenty centavos and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. San Francisco's storied mint, born of the California Gold Rush, has evolved into the primary producer of U.S. proof coins. Auction record: $5,160 � MS64 � 04-25-2021 � Heritage Auctions.
