Description

The 1903 Proof Philippine Fifty Centavos is a proof cent from the Philippines Fifty Centavos 1903-1945 series. The obverse features a female figure standing beside an anvil, similar to but larger than the twenty centavos and the reverse displays an eagle above a shield. Produced during the Progressive Era, when President Theodore Roosevelt championed a renaissance in American coin design that produced some of the most beautiful coins ever struck. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Auction record: $5,280 PR68 08-09-2020 Heritage Auctions. Struck in silver, weighing 3.6 grams, 24 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #90367.
