Description
The 1901 (S) Barber Dime was struck at the San Francisco Mint as a dime in the Barber Dimes 1892-1916 series. With a mintage of 593,022, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 2% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband and the reverse displays an agricultural wreath of corn, wheat, oak, and maple enclosing the words ONE DIME. The 1901-S is a scarce San Francisco issue. The San Francisco Mint, a Gold Rush-era institution, now specializes in proof and collector coinage. Estimated market value ranges from $127 to $2.6K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 2.5 grams, 17.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
