Description
Part of the Morgan Dollars 1878-1921 series, the 1895 (O) Morgan Dollar is a dollar from the New Orleans Mint. With a mintage of 450,000, this is an extremely rare issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 53% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, encircled by stars and the reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings clutching an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a wreath. Known as the "King of Morgan Dollars" — the 1895 exists only in proof, with no business strikes confirmed. The New Orleans Mint operated from 1838 to 1909, producing coins valued for their Southern historical provenance. Estimated market value ranges from $362 to $288K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7236.
