Description

The 1892 (O) Barber Dime is a dime produced at the New Orleans Mint as part of the Barber Dimes 1892-1916 series. With a mintage of 3.8 million, this is a less common issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 23% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing right wearing a Phrygian cap topped by a laurel wreath, with the word LIBERTY on a headband and the reverse displays an agricultural wreath of corn, wheat, oak, and maple enclosing the words ONE DIME. First year of the Barber design across dimes, quarters, and half dollars — a coordinated design family. Struck at the New Orleans Mint, which operated from 1838 to 1909 and produced coins prized for their historical Southern provenance. Estimated market value ranges from $20 to $442 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 2.5 grams, 17.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4797.
