1892-O Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-003

Description

Cross-referenced as Flynn DDR-003, WDDR-003 of the 1892-O Barber quarter exhibits Class II tripling spread toward the center on USA, QUARTER DOLLAR, all stars, outer edges of the banner, dots, and outer arrowheads, with the strongest displacement on AMERICA. The 1892 date marks the inaugural year of Charles Barber's Liberty Head quarter design, making doubled die varieties from this first-year issue especially notable. This obverse die is also WDDO-003, pairing a recognized DDO with a recognized DDR on the same coin. Obverse die markers include a die crack through lower 892 to the first star on the right, a vertical die scratch through the back of the ear, and a short die gouge south from the earlobe. The reverse shows four parallel die scratches northwest from the upper first A in AMERICA. Class II tripling, showing three distinct impressions rather than simple doubling, indicates the hub contacted the die at least three times with slight misalignment, creating the layered spread visible across the reverse design elements.
