Description
A cent from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1884 Nickel Three Cent Piece belongs to the Nickel Three Cent Pieces 1865-1889 series. With a mintage of 1,700, this is an extremely rare issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty facing left with a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a Roman numeral III within a wreath. Struck during the Gilded Age of rapid industrialization and the great silver debates, when monetary policy shaped elections and economic destiny. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $963 to $8.6K depending on grade and condition.
