Description
The 1883 (CC) Liberty Head Half Eagle, struck at the Carson City Mint, is part of the Liberty Head Half Eagles 1839-1908 collection. With a mintage of 12,958, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 4% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Philadelphia, Carson City, and San Francisco struck half eagles. Coined at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated for just 23 years (1870–1893) and produced coins now prized for their scarcity and Western provenance. S. numismatics.
