Description
The 1877 (S) Trade Dollar is a dollar from the San Francisco Mint, belonging to the Trade Dollars 1873-1885 series. The U.S. Mint produced 9.5 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 5 variants, accounting for 50% of the year's production. The obverse features Liberty seated facing left, holding an olive branch extended to the viewer, with a sheaf of wheat behind and the reverse displays an eagle perched on a bale of goods, with an olive branch and three arrows. The 1877-S with a mintage of over 9.5 million is the highest-production Trade Dollar and the most available date for type collectors. Coined at the San Francisco Mint, which transitioned from Gold Rush-era production to its modern role producing proof and collector issues.
