Description
The 1876 (CC) Liberty Head Eagle represents a Carson City Mint issue from the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series. With a mintage of 4,696, this is an extremely rare issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 45% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Centennial year. Eagles struck at Philadelphia, Carson City, and San Francisco. Coined at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated for just 23 years (1870–1893) and produced coins now prized for their scarcity and Western provenance. S. numismatics.
