Description
The 1875 (CC) Liberty Head Half Eagle represents a Carson City Mint issue from the Liberty Head Half Eagles 1839-1908 series. With a mintage of 11,828, this is a scarce issue — the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 56% of the year's production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. The 1875 has a very low Philadelphia mintage. The 1875-CC and 1875-S are more available. Coined at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated for just 23 years (1870–1893) and produced coins now prized for their scarcity and Western provenance. S. numismatics.
