Description
Part of the Liberty Head Eagles 1838-1907 series, the 1875 (CC) Liberty Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle from the Carson City Mint. With a mintage of 7,715, this is an extremely rare issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 99% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. A low-mintage year at Philadelphia and Carson City. San Francisco production was stronger. The Carson City Mint operated from 1870 to 1893, striking coins from Comstock Lode silver and gold — among the most collected mintmarks in numismatics. S. numismatics.
