Description

The 1873 Seated Liberty Half Dollar - No Arrows, Closed 3, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Seated Liberty Half Dollars 1839-1891 collection. The U.S. Mint produced 587,000 examples, making this ranked 6th of 7 mint variants by mintage, with 16% of production. The obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a pole surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap in her left hand and a shield inscribed LIBERTY in her right and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Final year of the Seated Liberty Half Dollar. The 1873 "No Arrows" Carson City issue is a major rarity. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding.
