Description
The 1873 (CC) Seated Liberty Dollar represents a Carson City Mint issue from the Seated Liberty Dollars 1840-1873 series. With a mintage of 2,300, this is an extremely rare issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a pole surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap in her left hand and a shield inscribed LIBERTY in her right and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Final year of the Seated Liberty Dollar, discontinued under the Coinage Act of 1873 in favor of the Trade Dollar. Carson City's Nevada mint, active from 1870 to 1893, produced coins from Comstock Lode metal that rank among the most sought-after in U.S. numismatics. S. numismatics.
