Description
The 1871 (CC) Seated Liberty Dollar, struck at the Carson City Mint, is part of the Seated Liberty Dollars 1840-1873 collection. With a mintage of 1,376, this is an extremely rare issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features Liberty seated on a rock, holding a pole surmounted by a Phrygian liberty cap in her left hand and a shield inscribed LIBERTY in her right and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Carson City struck its first silver dollars. The 1871-CC is a key Carson City issue. Coined at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, which operated for just 23 years (1870–1893) and produced coins now prized for their scarcity and Western provenance. S. numismatics.
