Description

A silver striking sharing the Seated Liberty trime obverse and star-within-C reverse design of J-795, this pattern was produced from a different die pair. Die variety differences in the 1870 Standard Silver series are often subtle, involving minor positional variations in legends, date placement, or star arrangements. J-796 in regular silver composition offers a direct metallurgical comparison to J-795 in standard silver, allowing contemporary evaluators to assess how the proposed alloy change would affect the appearance and striking characteristics of the familiar trime design. Cataloged as PCGS #61039.
