Description
Presenting the three-star cap Liberty Head and STANDARD wreath reverse in aluminum with a plain edge, J-893 closes the standard six-variety matrix for this design group. The aluminum composition combined with a plain edge makes this the most minimalist expression of the design, lacking both the heft of precious metal and the tactile complexity of edge reeding. Plain-edge aluminum patterns are among the most easily damaged survivors from the 1870 series, as the soft metal and unprotected rim leave them vulnerable to edge nicks and handling marks that harder metals would resist. Cataloged as PCGS #61137.
