The 1870 (CC) Liberty Head Half Eagle represents a Carson City Mint issue from the Liberty Head Half Eagles 1839-1908 series. With a mintage of 7,675, this is an extremely rare issue — ranked 2nd of 3 mint variants by mintage, with 27% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. First Carson City half eagle. Carson City's Nevada mint, active from 1870 to 1893, produced coins from Comstock Lode metal that rank among the most sought-after in U.S. numismatics. S. numismatics.
