The 1867 Die Trial is a United States coin from the Die Trials, Hub Trials, and Splashers 1792-1982 series — 25th of 39 years in the series. The obverse features test impressions from coin dies, ranging from fully detailed to partial impressions and the reverse displays test impressions that may be blank, partial, or paired with unrelated dies (mules). Minted during Reconstruction and the Gilded Age, as the nation healed from civil war and debated the role of silver and gold in the monetary system. A notable auction result reached $2.2K in MS62 grade at Stack's Bowers. Designed by Various Mint engravers.
