Description
A Gold Dollar from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1865 Liberty Gold Dollar belongs to the Large Indian Princess Head Gold Dollars 1856-1889 series. With a mintage of 3,700, this is an extremely rare issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 99% of production. The obverse features a female figure wearing a feathered headdress, representing Liberty in the guise of a Native American princess with a larger, more detailed head design and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR. Civil War ended. Production remained low at Philadelphia. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $1.2K to $6.4K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 14.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
