The 1860 Die Trial is a United States coin from the Die Trials, Hub Trials, and Splashers 1792-1982 series — 21st of 39 years in the series. The obverse features test impressions from coin dies, ranging from fully detailed to partial impressions and the reverse displays test impressions that may be blank, partial, or paired with unrelated dies (mules). Struck during the California Gold Rush era, when vast quantities of western gold transformed the American economy and led to new denominations. A notable auction result reached $7.8K in MS64BN grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by Various Mint engravers.
