Description
Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, the 1858 Liberty Gold Dollar is part of the Large Indian Princess Head Gold Dollars 1856-1889 series. With a mintage of 117,995, this is a less common issue — the highest mintage among 3 variants, accounting for 90% of the year's production. The obverse features a female figure wearing a feathered headdress, representing Liberty in the guise of a Native American princess with a larger, more detailed head design and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR. Four-mint production continued. The 1858-D is a scarce Dahlonega issue. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $466 to $1.4K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.7 grams, 14.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
