Description
This entry covers early NGC-certified examples of the 1838 Gobrecht dollar pattern struck in copper, encapsulated before NGC began routinely assigning specific Judd numbers to these issues. The 1838 copper dollar patterns share the same Seated Liberty obverse and Flying Eagle reverse dies as their silver counterparts, but were struck on copper planchets as off-metal experiments or collector pieces. As original strikings, these copper specimens were produced contemporaneously with the silver versions in 1838.
