Description
The 1834 Classic Head Half Cent is a cent minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Classic Head Half Cents 1809-1836 series. With a mintage of 141,000, this is a less common issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 100% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a fillet or headband inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing HALF CENT. Continued limited output. The denomination was approaching replacement. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $100 to $313 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 5.44 grams, 23.5 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1165.
