Description
A Gold Quarter Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1833 Capped Head to Left Quarter Eagle belongs to the Capped Head to Left Quarter Eagles 1821-1834 series. With a mintage of 4,160, this is a less common issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 100% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a cap with curls of hair beneath and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Low mintage year. The denomination would be redesigned the following year. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $7.6K to $27K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 91.7% gold, 8.3% copper, weighing 4.37 grams, 18.2 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
