Description
The 1830 Capped Bust Half Dime was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a dime in the Capped Bust Half Dimes 1829-1837 series. With a mintage of 1.2 million, this is a less common issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 100% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Strong production at Philadelphia. The series settled into regular annual output. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $83 to $1.1K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 1.35 grams, 15.9 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4277.
