Description
The 1829 Capped Head to Left Half Eagle - Large Size, struck at the Philadelphia Mint, is part of the Capped Head to Left Half Eagles 1813-1834 collection. With a mintage of 25,375, this is a less common issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a cap with curls of hair beneath and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. First year of the reduced-size (23.8mm to 22.5mm) format. A major subtype distinction. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $76K to $605K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 91.7% gold, 8.3% copper, weighing 8.75 grams, 25 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge.
