Description
A Gold Half Eagle from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1825 Capped Head to Left Half Eagle - 1825/4/1 belongs to the Capped Head to Left Half Eagles 1813-1834 series. With a mintage of 29,060, this is a less common issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a cap with curls of hair beneath and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. The 1825/4 and 1825/1 overdates are collected varieties. Low mintage continued. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $605K to $849K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 91.7% gold, 8.3% copper, weighing 8.75 grams, 25 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8133.
