Description
The 1819 Capped Bust Quarter - Large 9 was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a quarter in the Capped Bust Quarters 1815-1838 series. With a mintage of 144,000, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a mob cap or turban and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons, with a banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM. Struck during a period of national unity and westward expansion following the War of 1812, as the U.S. grew in confidence and territory. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $166 to $12K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 89.2% silver, 10.8% copper, weighing 6.74 grams, 27.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #5326.
