Description
The 1818 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. With a mintage of 3.2 million, this is a less common issue — the higher-mintage of the two mint variants, representing 100% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Multiple Newcomb varieties. Strong production at Philadelphia. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $38 to $1.1K depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1600.
