Description

A die clash is visible on the reverse of this 1794 Liberty Cap large cent of the Head of 1794 variety. A die clash occurs when the obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet between them, transferring elements of each die's design onto the opposing die. This is a known variety with multiple die clashes of the hair, bow, and bust from the obverse visible on the reverse. The 1794 Liberty Cap cent was the second year of large cent production, and the Head of 1794 variety features a distinctive portrait style unique to this year.
