About This Coin
The 1793 Flowing Hair Wreath Cent is a United States cent from the Flowing Hair Wreath Cents 1793 series. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars, while the reverse displays a wreath of laurel and berries enclosing ONE CENT with a trefoil at the top. Designed by Attributed to Henry Voight. Struck in copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 27 mm in diameter. The Wreath Cent replaced the controversial Chain Cent in mid-1793, adding a more ornate and less politically charged reverse design. Some examples feature a strawberry or vine-and-bar edge lettering. Produced for only part of one year, all Wreath Cents are scarce.
